Integrated protection
All-risk coverage for cargo, equipment, and ancillary costs - including demurrage and detention with shipping lines, storage fees, and reefer plug days at terminal. An operation 100% free of extra costs.
Smartports provides integrated protection that covers the full spectrum of supply chain risk - not just cargo, but also the equipment that carries it and the ancillary costs that can erode margins. Through insurance or direct preferential agreements with shipping lines and terminals, we guarantee an operation 100% free of extra costs.
Our all-risk cargo policies cover the full value of goods from origin to delivery with no deductibles. Equipment insurance protects containers, chassis, gensets, and reefer units against damage, malfunction, and liability. And our ancillary cost protection covers demurrage and detention with shipping lines, storage fees, and reefer plug days at terminal - turning unpredictable expenses into a managed, capped risk.
What’s covered
Our approach
No major global forwarder offers standalone storage and demurrage insurance products. The industry treats demurrage, detention, storage, and reefer plug days as operational costs passed through to clients. Smartports converts the entire ancillary cost structure into a managed, insurable risk - guaranteeing an operation 100% free of extra costs through insurance or direct preferential agreements.
Ship with full protection
Cargo, equipment, and ancillary costs - all covered under one integrated protection service. Zero extra costs, zero surprises.
Terms & Conditions
The following conditions must be met for the importer to maintain ancillary cost insurance coverage and the right to claim reimbursement:
Reimbursement-Based Coverage
Insurance cover operates through reimbursement within 5–15 business days after the importer has paid the terminal for storage fees or the shipping line for demurrage/detention charges.
Telex Release & Payment Deadline
Shipment telex release and full payment to the shipper must be completed no later than 3 days prior to ETA to guarantee timely shipment release at destination.
Customs Declaration Deadline
The customs declaration must be paid within 2 days of the container being discharged into the terminal.
Claim Filing Deadline
The reimbursement claim must be filed within 4 working days of the incurrence of storage fees or demurrage/detention charges.
Non-compliance: Failure to meet any of the above conditions will result in the loss of ancillary cost insurance coverage and the importer’s right to claim reimbursement for that shipment.
